The Cairngorm National Park has numerous attractions to visit while you are enjoying your stay in Newtonmore.

Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie

Ruthven Barracks are the ruins of the barracks built by the British government in 1719 after the Jacobite uprising.  They are a short drive away just outside Kingussie.  A car park allows easy access or they can be reached via pleasant walk from Kingussie Main Street.
Landmark Forest Theme Park in Carrbridge is an excellent day out for everyone.  Exciting rides, interactive demonstrations of forestry plus a high level forest walkway will keep children young and old busy for a whole day.

Strathspey Steam Railway is based in Aviemore and travels along the Spey valley to Broomhill station via Boat of Garten, a return trip takes about 90 minutes.  Special events including sunset dining and Sunday lunches are run throughtout the year. 

Sheepdog demonstrations
 at Leault Farm in Kincraig take place in the afternoons.  Times can vary according to the time of year.

The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre
at Glenmore, Aviemore allows you get up close to the herd of reindeer and visit them in their natural habitat on the Cairngorm mountain.

Visit the inhabitants of the Highland Wildlife Park
Clan MacPherson Museum is situated five minutes walk from the Steading in the Main Street of Newtonmore. It was the first museum devoted to a single clan history and has extensive exhibits detailing local history and the history of the MacPherson Clan.

Less than a mile from the cottage, the Highland Folk museum is well worth a visit. Fantastic view of Highland Life with exhibits for all ages. Allow at least 3 or 4 hours to see all the attractions.  A vintage bus takes you around the mile long site visiting a huge collection of historical buildings.

Situated in the centre of the village is the Aqua Theatre. A popular light and water show is performed hourly to music.

The Highland Wildlife Park is a short drive away in Kincraig. Open all year, seeing the tigers, wolves and the polar bear; the safari drive are a "must do" for families. The park is part of Edinburgh Zoo and a strong conservation theme runs through the park. There is a great cafe and very friendly staff.
Cairngorm Sled-Dog Centre  is 3 miles east of Aviemore within the Cairngorm National Park. You can take a ride on a sled pulled by husky dogs - with or without snow on the ground,in the beautiful Glenmore forest. Booking is essential.
